Masami Tanaka
Born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
Since childhood, he has been interested in photography. At the age of 18, he built a darkroom in his house and started developing colour photographs and reversal films.

After graduating from photography school, he worked for a film company doing hand-burning. After two years, he became independent and started taking nature photos on his own. At the age of 23, he met a kingfisher in a mountain stream and was fascinated by its sight, which he spent the next 12 years photographing. He published his first photo book in Japan (Yama Jade).In 1988, he began photographing nature above 60 degrees north latitude. His current focus is on still and moving VR360 panoramas and motion timelapse.

He teaches Aurora and Timelapse at NHK and Kogakuin University for both amateurs and professionals. His work has been featured in the Nikkei newspaper, Fuji Sankei, NHK, BS-TBS NTV and NHK-BS Premium.
